!IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!
Hello, my friend. I released the following statement today:
You may have noticed that my campaign for District 3 of Greensboro City Council has not been as robust recently as you may have expected. This is true because I have been diagnosed recently as having cancer.
First, I want to thank all those wonderful people who have put me in their prayers and wished me the best as they learned of my condition. I truly appreciate all the prayers and the positive energy that has been sent my way. This helps provide a meaningful foundation for healing and taking on the challenges that lie ahead.
Next, I announce that I am ending my campaign for City Council. This is a critical time for me to focus on my physical and mental health rather than to commit my energy to pursuing public office. As much as I love Greensboro and want to contribute to building new opportunities for its residents, I know that my personal priorities must change now. The wonderful people of Greensboro deserve nothing less than the full, undistracted commitment of those who seek to lead our city. For this reason, I am instructing the Guilford County Board of Elections to remove my name from the ballot for the July 26 General Election.
In making this decision, I endorse Zack Matheny to serve as the Council member for District 3. As a former City Council member, he has the strong experience to represent well the people of District 3. I also believe that he shares my commitment to improving economic development and public safety across the city. I congratulate Zack on his next steps because I am advised by the Elections Board that his name now will be the only one that appears on the ballot.
I hope the best for all my friends who serve on City Council and for those who work for the city. Following my treatments and my recovery from prostate cancer, I again will seek to serve the people of Greensboro with the considerable resources that I offer our city. From chip
